General Guidelines

  • When citing articles, include as much information about the article as possible, such as the author's name, year and location of publication, the title of the article, and volume and/or issue number.
  • If you are having a hard time finding the information to include in your cite, databases will have a detail page that will have the information you need.
  • Example:  http://search.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.liberty.edu:2048/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=103568123&site=ehost-live&scope=site
  • If an article has 8 or more authors listed, include the first 6 authors as shown in the article, add an ellipses (...), and then include the final author listed.
    • Example:

Wan, P. T. C. Garnett, M. J., Roe, S. M., Niculescu-Duvaz, D., Good., V. M., … Marais, R. (2004).
Mechanism of activation of the RAF-ERK signaling pathway by oncogenic mutations of the
       B-RAF. Cell, 166(6), 855-867. doi:10.1016/S0092-8674(04)00215-6

  • If the DOI number of the article is available, include it in the citation.
  • If the DOI number is mentioned, it is not required to add ending punctuation:

Example: doi: 10.97/jstor.2012.04.12

  • If the DOI number is not available, include the home page URL of the journal or the permalink (also called persistent link) of the article (see the examples below) .
    • Example:

Gill, C. S., Barrio Minton, C. A., & Myers, J. E. (2010). Spirituality and religiosity: Factors
affecting wellness among low-income, rural women. Journal of Counseling & Development, 88,
     293-302. Retrieved from http://aca.metapress.com/
