Open Educational Resources (OER)

"Open Educational Resources are teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use and repurposing by others. OER include full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials, or techniques used to support access to knowledge." - Hewlett Foundation

  2. OER Commons – a search engine that makes various OERs of different levels discoverable
  3. OpenStax – an initiative of Rice University with support from foundations like Hewlett and the Gate’s Foundation (peer reviewed)
  4. MIT Open Courseware – openly published MIT course content that covers the humanities, social sciences, and sciences

Search for OER across multiple repositories in the Mason OER Metafinder.

Mason OER Metafinder is searching well-known OER repositories like OpenStax, OER Commons, MERLOT but also sites like HathiTrust, DPLA, Internet Archive and NYPL Digital Collections where valuable but often overlooked open educational materials may be found.
