APA Writing Guide: Home

This research guide provides a brief introduction to APA 7th edition.

Welcome

This guide provides a brief introduction to general APA 7 guidelines for writers. The information provided here was taken from the APA Style website, the APA Academic Writer database, and from Liberty University's APA 7 guidelines from the writing center.

APA 7 provides separate formatting guidelines for student and professional writers. Liberty University has determined that its undergraduate students should follow APA 7’s guidelines for student papers, while graduate and doctoral students should follow the guidelines for professional papers (see separate tabs in this guide). Writing and reference guidelines remain the same for both student and professional papers.

Citation Help

Keeping track of citation styles changes doesn't have to be difficult. The Jerry Falwell Library offers RefWorks to help you keep track of the references you are using and to assist you with citing your sources.

RefWorks can output your paper's reference list in many citation styles, including APA. It is important to verify that your reference list is in the correct format, so be sure to make sure the citation is correct in RefWorks. A short video tutorial on using RefWorks is included below to assist in getting started.
