Tips for attending a career fair

  • Use websites to familiarize yourself with the companies and organizations that will be there.
  • Take copies of your updated resume to provide to prospective employers. CASAS Career Services provides excellent resources for writing a resume.
  • Dress professionally.
  • Prepare a 20-30 second introduction of yourself.
  • Demonstrate interest by having questions prepared.
    • Don't ask "What does your company do?" or questions about information you can learn from the website.
    • Do ask questions like, "What do you look for in a prospective employee?" "What knowledge and skills do you value most?" "What do you like about working for the company?"
  • LU Career Coaches are available at all career fairs to answer your questions and provide further tips and encouragement.
  • Can I still attend if I am not graduating yet? Yes! A career fair is an excellent way to meet prospective employers, learn about the industry, and the future job market.

A certification or continuing education course are a great way to stand out among applications. Visit the Center for Professional & Continuing Education for details.
