This Church History Guide site offers suggested materials to begin a study in Church History. Special attention is given to locating primary texts and highlighting key Reference works. There are many titles that could be offered, but the following items are a great place to start your journey.


This Home page offers several types of resources on the task of doing historical study, the nature of historiography, some general guides to the professional practice of historical research, and several titles on the important relationship between faith and scholarship. Being a Professional Historian

The following resources all address the role of the professional historian, various debates over historiography, and ideal standards of academic scholarship in the field of history. These materials are not necessarily written by Christians nor focused on exploring Church History. They are, however, helpful for understanding the task of 'doing history' well.
