GOVT 346 Legal Research and Writing: Statutes

Federal and State Government Websites

Below are two directories which will point you towards state and Federal websites. They are not databases, so you will have to locate the appropriate government body before you can begin to search for statutes.

State statutes will most likely be found within the website for the state's legislative body. Each state's website will look different but all should have a search function which will help you locate the body of statues. Do not use the top level search function to search for a title or term within a specific statute. Find the statutes first and then use the table of contents to drill down to the subject you are researching.
